Sisters Trails Committee
Sisters Trails Committee and Trails Plan
The Sisters Community Trail Plan was completed in 2003 by
the Community Team of Sisters, The Sisters Trails Committee and
citizens with assistance from the National Park Service Rivers
and Trails Program. The Trails Plan document is available for
review at the SOAR Community
Center. Sisters Trails
Committee is a group of Sisters area residents working to
develop a community - wide, non-motorized trail system. It's a
vision of a community with a safe, accessible network of trails
serving every neighborhood within the greater Sisters area
connecting them to downtown Sisters, to schools and to the
regional trails within the Deschutes National Forest.
It's a trail system for everyone, from the residents of
Cloverdale and Tollgate to the citizens of Crossroads and Aspen
Lakes. It's a trail system that will make the Sisters area a
better place to live, connecting us to our community and each
other.

Our Goals:
- Provide safe walking and bicycling routes.
- Improve the Sisters village atmosphere by reducing traffic
congestion and pollutions.
- Promote the health and wellness for all community members
with non-motorized trails for walking, jogging, bicycling,
skiing and horseback riding.
- Improve our economy by expanding recreational use of our
trails.
- Provide a connection to the unique history, heritage and
natural beauty of the Sisters area.
- Provide alternative transportation routes that protect and
conserve the natural beauty of the Sisters Community.
- Establish community involvement in the development and
maintenance of the Sisters Trail System.
The
Sisters Trails Committee is a hard working group of volunteers
that is implementing the Sisters Community Trails Plan by
actively designing and building trails. In 2006 they
completed the new trail linking the Tollgate neighborhood with
the Sisters High School. Their next big project is to build a
trail connection between the High School and the Crossroads
neighborhood. The committee holds regular work parties of
volunteers to sign, maintain and build trails.

Using Sisters Trails
Sisters Community Trails are a mix of constructed single track
trails and networks of forest roads. There are four
informational kiosks located in the core Sisters area (see
inset map) and direction and mileage signs along trailheads and
at junctions. You will also find small "Sisters Trails" logo
reassurance signs posted on trees and posts along the way to
help you stay on the right path.
Most trails are open to all non-motorized use, although a few
have restrictions on equestrian and mountain bike traffic to
protect the trail and surrounding environment. These
restrictions are posted.
The Sisters Community Trails system is built and maintained by
volunteers. If, in your travels, you see anything that might
require our attention, please let us know. Thanks, and enjoy
the Sisters Community Trails!
About Sisters Trails
Since 2001, the Sisters Trails Committee, composed of a group
of Sisters area residents, has been working to develop a system
of walking, hiking, biking and equestrian trails in the greater
Sisters area. These trails will connect neighborhoods with the
city, schools and adjacent public lands. The Sisters Trails
Committee is part of
Sisters Organization for Activities and Recreation. The
committee has produced a comprehensive trails plan that
identifies nearly 150 miles of trails, paths and lanes that
will eventually be constructed in the greater Sisters area over
time. The Trails Committee, community volunteers and area
businesses are working together to plan and construct new
trails on an ongoing basis.
For this reason, the Sisters trails system is a work in
progress, growing each year as it offers residents and visitors
expanded recreation and commuting opportunities while enhancing
the quality of the Sisters area as a place to live and visit.
