Summer Art Camps

Join us for some great summer art camps with some wonderful art teachers who specialize in teaching children's art.



ART CAMPS WITH JAMIE CHAPMAN

Jamie Chapman received her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art Education degrees from the University of Wyoming and has been teaching child-focused art classes for over 20 years. In addition to teaching at SOAR she is teaching at the Art Station in Bend and in other Central Oregon communities through the mobile Van Go program.

At the Big Top!               

Ages:  6-8       
We'll be clowning around when the circus comes to our town!  You'll be in charge of creating the "greatest show on Earth!" Lions, tigers, dancing bears, acrobats, clowns (of course!) and lots of fun will be had under our Big Top. Create your own circus extravaganza using clay, paint, drawing and collage in this exciting camp.

Out of the Box!               

Ages:  6-8
What can you do with a box? Think lunchboxes, pizza boxes, treasure boxes, jack-in-the boxes, and the artwork of "box" artists such as Joseph Cornell, and architects, like Frank Lloyd Wright.  Create with texture, color, shape, form and line to see where your imaginations will take you out of the box!

The sky is the limit when you take flight on this journey of imagination!  Create art that is all about what goes up, up and away into the skies of the wild blue yonder.  Reach the heights of art discovery as you draw, paint, collage and investigate art from amazing flying machines and creatures to soaring skyscrapers and super heroes.

Mosaics.jpgCreative Genius

Grades 3-5 & 5-8
Camp Creative Genius is under the direction of Clayton Warburton. Clay is a teacher at the Sisters Elementary School and is the leader of the Art Literacy Program and involved in the My Own Two Hands Project. He uses art extensively in his classroom and is a professional artist (claywarburton.com). His goal is to give kids multiple opportunities to express themselves using many mediums and for kids to find their own "creative genius".

  Camp activities include: large scale paintings, mosaics, development in design elements, color mixing, shading and value, realistic drawing and brush techniques. Students will see fantastic art from around the world. They will discuss elements of different artists and incorporate the things they like best into their own creations.

Creative Resource Foundation Art Workshops - Youth, Teen & Adults.

Polymer Clay; Hands-On Color Blending

Age 18+
Forget the pieces of colored paper, forget the prism, forget the confusing terminology.  Ever wonder what you would need to mix to get cranberry or mustard?  In this full-day workshop, participants will get a real feel for how color works by blending small amounts of pigmented polymer clay starting with primary colors and going through secondary and tertiary colors.  (Don't worry, tertiary is the most difficult word in the class.)

The Masters of the Renaissance knew how to use the technique of under painting on a toned canvas to create stunning paintings. Learn how to master color and the use of value using this simple yet effective technique. Understand the secrets of composition comp & value studies studies and the technique of negative space. Mixed Media Collage

Ages 18+
Expect the unexpected. Experiment with mixed-media collage.  Learn various collaging and painting techniques.  Combine ideas, images, words, and paint to create unique collage expressions that tell visual stories.  You may not know where you are going when you start but you will be delighted with where you end up.  Let "happy accidents" guide you through the process.  Bring a stash of personal Xeroxed photos, and other images, as well as other interesting papers to personalize your artwork.

Watercolor 101

Offered as two separate workshops; take one or both.  Always wanted to paint in watercolor but afraid to try?  This is the workshop for you!  Master the art of watercolor one step at a time by using a series of skill building exercises to do it, with author of the book Watercolor 101, Barbara Berry.  Understand the building blocks of watercolor the wash, how light works, edge patterning, and the use of value to create volume and how to use it in your paintings.  Create paintings using negative space that are dynamic to the eye.  No Experience Necessary
