Watercolor 101

Conditional Supply Fee:

There is a $20 supply rental fee, paid directly to the instructor at the beginning of the workshop, for anyone who would like to have the following supplies provided by the instructor.  The instructors do not accept credit cards, so be sure to bring cash or a check with you.  No supply fee for those who bring their own supplies.  Please indicate your preference when registering for this workshop.
Required Supplies:
Palette
sponges -2
water container
box for supplies
#2 pencil , sketchbook, or paper, & kneaded eraser
masking tape & hairdryer
PAINT: Buy only tube paints, the pan paints are not suitable.  Buy one tube of each color in a NAME BRAND (cheap watercolors don't work well) I use Da Vinci, it is good quality and economical.
PRIMARY RED (choose one):  CHOOSE ONE: rose madder, OR alizarin crimson
PRIMARY YELLOW(choose one): Aureolin, hansa yellow, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow light
PRIMARY BLUE (choose one):  Cobalt blue, Pthalo blue, Ultramarine blue
WARM/COOL:  CHOOSE ONE WARM AND ONE COOL COLOR: Burnt sienna, or Raw sienna & Cobalt blue or Pthalo blue
BRUSHES: Watercolor brushes have SHORT handles. The best one are of natural hair, usually squirrel.  Synthetic ones will work, they just don't carry as much water and therefore paint.
One size 10 or 12 Round watercolor brush (if you have only one brush, THIS IS THE ONE)
PAPER: DON'T SKIMP ON THE PAPER - YOU WILL GET POOR RESULTS ON CHEAP PAPERS. I USE ONLY ARCHES 140#, COLD PRESSED PAPER: 22X 30 watercolor paper, color pressed, 140# rag and 1/8 inch hardboard board to stretch it on
OR
ARCHES watercolor block 10 X 14, 140 # Cold pressed
