Soar Teen Center Programs
This fall brings new and exciting changes to the SOAR Teen
Center. We will now offer several dynamic programs
for middle school youth after school. We will
retain the drop-in option only on Fridays when we will plan
Dinner and a Movie for teens. Check out the after
school, and no-school day opportunities for middle school teens
contained in this catalog.
SOAR welcomes Anne Heath, our new Teen Program
Coordinator. Anne comes to us with lots of
experience and enthusiasm for broadening the variety and
quality of the programs we offer. Leadership
development and service for teens is a priority on Anne's
agenda. Please take the time to stop into the teen center
and introduce yourself. Our regular weekday programs kick
off on September 8 as follows:

Dinner and a Movie - Teen Center Open
Teen Center Snack Bar
The teen center has a full snack bar offering small hot meals such as burritos, pizza, hot pockets, corn dogs, and noodles. We also sell granola bars, nuts, jerky, candy, soda, juice and other cold drinks. Popcorn is always free. The snack bar will be available to those taking part in SOAR programs after school on Monday through Thursday, and open to all on Fridays.
Friday At The Teen Center
Fridays in the teen center will be supervised at all
times. Movies will be age appropriate rated.
A different meal will be planned each week. Youth will be
encouraged to take part in the food preparation. The
center will be drop-in. Therefore, youth can come and go
as they please. No monitoring will be provided for youth
who make the decision to leave the center. Cost for
Dinner and the Movie will be $3.00.
Teens in Service
This fall we continue our Teens in Service program. Each
Thursday we will offer a different service experience for teens
after school. Service might include working at the
Sisters Food Bank, washing fire trucks, or volunteering at
Chimps, Inc. There is no charge for Teens in
Service. Teens meet at SOAR at 3:00 p.m.

Homework Club
Monday and Wednesday after school. Homework help available. Fun activities for when the homework is done. Registration is required. Cost: $25

Baby Sitter Training/First Aid/CPR
Grades 6-8
Do you have what it takes to be a good babysitter? This
class will prepare you for taking care of the needs of infants
and small children as well administering first aid and CPR to
children and adults. Make sure you are prepared to
respond in the event of an emergency. Sign-up early; this
class fills quickly.

Rising Stars Club
Grades 6-8
This after school opportunity will lead middle school youth on
a path to developing leadership and goal setting skills.
Fun opportunities and activities such as games, field trips,
and guests will be incorporated into each week.
Topics such as Developing healthy lifestyles, Attitude is
Everything, Dealing with Peer Influences, and Developing a
Healthy Image, are just a few of the topics that will
help youth develop self-esteem, and leadership qualities.
Group meets weekly on Monday after school.

Rising Stars Camp
Grades 6-8
Do you have what it takes to be a star? Do you have
special gifts, but are not sure how to share them? This 2
day mini-camp is an extension of our "Rising Stars" leadership
development program. However, you need not be active in
the program to attend camp. Day 1 will be spent
making stars out of campers through activities, games, etc.
which allow them to discover their leadership potential using
their special gifts. Day 2 will be spent reaching for the
stars as we travel to a planetarium. Along the way
we will revisit the themes from Day 1.

Teens in Service
Alternating Thursdays on November 6 & 20. Service
experience for teens in grades 6-12. No charge.
Registration is required. We will no longer allow teens
to drop-in and call their parents asking to participate on that
day. We must have them registered in advance in
order to transport them to service locations.
Heroes Camp
Grades 6-8
Who's your hero? Our country is full of heroes who
make a difference in the lives of the people around them every
day. Do you have what it takes to be someone else's
hero? This one day camp will explore the vision of
"heroes" in our lives. Camp will include fun activities,
physical challenges and time spent with real life heroes.

Christmas Gift Workshop
Grades 6-8
Spend the day making great gifts for your friends and
family. Several different projects will be offered for
teens to create that special holiday gift.

North Star Girls Group - For Girls Only
Grades 6-8
Middle School girls face a unique set of challenges in our
world. Having the skills to meet those challenges makes
all the difference. This special "girls only" club meets
once a week after school. Fun activities, field
trips, and guest speakers will incorporate such topics as peer
pressure, handling rumors, self-esteem, body image, and media
influence. Lots of fun "girl stuff" such as finger nails,
hair, music and clothing styles will be explored. Don't
miss this powerful and fun experience for middle school girls.
Our High School Leadership team is working hard to prepare this
very special group for girls in grades 6-8. Kick
off will be on Tuesday, November 4 at 3:30 in the SOAR Teen
Center. Registration is required for this 10 week
session. Cost is $25.00. Contact Anne at 549-2091
